Manufacturing Project Engineer

The purpose of this role is to manage the introduction of new projects from initiation to the start of production. You will be responsible for providing technical and engineering support for customers and internal teams and having full responsibility for project planning, implementation, and process documentation.

 

Roles and Responsibilties

  • Full responsibility for planning, implementing, and coordinating customers’ New Product Introduction (NPI) to the business to ensure a smooth delivery from project initiation to start of production.
  • Support NPI by ensuring the correct procedures (customer and Company) are followed through the development and release to production to meet all aspects of cost, quality, manufacturability, process capability, and delivery for successful launch.
  • Oversee defined work packages, including detailed instructions, drawings, bills of material, references, and inspection requirements.
  • Ownership of capturing project related issues in the Problem Follow Up and ensuring ongoing action taken to resolve before closing out of project.
  • Manage Engineering Change Control during project to ensure internal process changes have traceability and completion in line with timing plans.
  • Conform to overall quality control of the work and report regularly on project status.
  • Support and/or manage customer meetings and discussions.
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with internal department managers and operational teams.
  • Use Problem Definition, Root Cause Analysis, Problem Solving Techniques, and Failure Analysis to ensure high standard of NPI delivery.
  • Develop, oversee, and seek continuous improvement of the NPI process – e.g. conducting ‘lessons learned’ workshops.
  • Prepare recommendations regarding existing or required machinery – identify and drive efficient production, tooling, and programming methods to ensure successful product delivery.
  • To suggest and assist with improvement recommendations for the department or Company.
  • To report any hazards or near-misses using iAuditor.
  • To always represent and promote our Company and our values in a positive light in line with Company policies.
  • To perform any other duties as reasonably required by your manager or a Director.
  • To attend training to develop relevant knowledge, techniques, and skills.
  • To perform the role in line with Advanex Fundamentals whilst demonstrating Company Core values.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Minimum HNC
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Proven expertise in manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing, and ISO standards
  • Ability to identify and deliver improvements in the manufacturing process in a structured and controlled manner
  • Good IT and literacy skills (MS Office software)
  • Able to present information to audiences of differing skill levels
  • Ability to maintain high standards
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to follow instructions and processes
  • Strong work ethic
  • Positive ‘will do’ attitude
  • Motivated working alone and as part of a busy team
  • Systematic and methodical
  • Able to work with stakeholders and customers appropriate to the role

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Work on own initiative
  • Previous experience from precision engineering/manufacturing environment
  • Experience using EFACS or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
  • AutoCAD 2D experience.

  • To either correct or notify management of any unsafe working practices and of any person behaving in an unsafe manner.
  • To be aware of any responsibilities as laid down in Company Health & Safety Policy and relevant risk assessments.

 

Performance Indicators

  • Provide weekly reports on NPI status to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
  • Deliver NPI projects on time, on budget and to correct quality.
  • Support or own departmental/business Roadmap activities as required.
