Toolmaker

Department/Site: Toolroom in Southwell site
Line Manager: Tooling & Design Lead

The purpose of this role is to manufacture precision consumable tooling for production departments in line with the production plan, and to support the engineering department when required.

  • Day/Night shifts on a 2 week rota
  • 37.5 hrs/week
  • Mon – Thurs = 8.5hrs (unpaid 1/2hr lunch); Fri = 5.5hrs (no lunch)
  • Night shift: 3 x 10hrs Mon-Weds; 1 x 7.5hrs Thurs
  • Shift premium (Mon – Sat overtime x1.5; Sun overtime x2; night shifts, time-and-a-third)

 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Operate toolroom equipment consisting of milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, wire EDMs, and spark erosion equipment competently.
  • Produce components to engineering drawings to a high level.
  • Identify improvements and manufacturing methods within the department to increase efficiency and output.
  • Maintain works order paperwork and booking through Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Follow the Company’s safety culture policy; Think, Plan, Take Your Time, Always Intervene.
  • Suggest and assist with improvement recommendations for the department or Company.
  • Report and hazards or near misses using iAuditor.
  • Always represent and promote our Company and our values in a positive light in line with Company policies.
  • Perform any other duties as reasonably required by your manager or a Director.
  • Attend training to develop relevant knowledge, techniques, and skills.
  • Perform role in line with Advanex Fundamentals whilst demonstrating Company Core Values.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Level 1 Maths and English or equivalent
  • Time-served apprenticeship
  • Minimum 5 years experience in toolroom environment
  • Previous experience of toolroom equipment: milling, lathes, surface grinders, wire & die sink EDMs
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to follow instructions and processes
  • Strong work ethic
  • Positive ‘will do’ attitude
  • Enthusiasm and desire to learn
  • Motivated working alone and as part of a busy team
  • Able to work with stakeholders/customers appropriate to the role
  • Good timekeeping and attendance.

 

Desirable

  • GCSEs (A-C grades including Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • NVQ level 2 or 3
  • BTEC engineering qualification
  • AutoCAD – Solidworks
  • Work on own initiative
  • Experience using EFACS or similar ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system
  • Willing to go the ‘extra mile’ to achieve the correct outcome.

  • To either correct or notify management of any unsafe working practices and of any person behaving in an unsafe manner.
  • To be aware of any responsibilities as laid down in Company Health and Safety Policy and relevant risk assessments.
