Our new online resources tool is now up and running. This fantastic new tool is a must for engineers and designers to visit regularly. In the Knowledge Hub there is information and guidance on all kinds of areas such as reducing particulate, spring glossary and previous editions of our Engineers Guide To Spring Technology.
We update the Knowledge Hub on a regular basis and have recently added some new information on Hinges.

Stuart Orton, Head of New Projects
|
|
My current position is Head of New Projects. I have been with Advanex for almost 11 years now working at the Southwell site and have worked in the spring making industry for almost 30 years. I enjoy the practical side of my work and get great satisfaction from seeing the new builds and improvements we are able to achieve in support of our customers.
New builds could be an initiative driven by ourselves or it could be a customer who may wish to commission a new machine so that it can be specific to their product and then tailored to precisely meet their requirements. Our designers and build team are all in-house meaning on site back up is always available with very little third party intervention.
Knowing we build in-house, the customer has peace of mind that problems can be dealt with quickly and efficiently. Our new machines are all designed and built to be high speed and high quality, improving our competitiveness in the production market.
Part of the Advanex ethos is continuous improvement meaning we are able to constantly look to improve our processes and products as we know the machinery inside out.
We have a highly skilled team that are capable of designing and building machines for any area of spring manufacturing and there’s nothing we enjoy more than a challenge. At present we supply a wide range of areas including Pharmaceutical, Aerospace, Automotive and the Electrical industry. We have been able to increase our production speeds by more than double on most of our new build machines. In some cases even more! Some speeds have improved from around 40/50 parts per minute to 150/200 parts per minute. On one department we now have six machines producing what fifteen machines did previously.
An area of my work where I get great satisfaction is mentoring our apprentices and working with our young graduates. It’s great to see them develop the skills and understanding as they grow to be our next generation of Engineers.
Working at Advanex is more than just coming to work, for me it really is a family affair. On completion of his degree, my son Luke started work at the Bilborough site in production administration, where he enjoys regular contact with our customers. Even before joining Advanex Luke already knew a lot of the team having joined in the various charity bike rides and family activities that are a regular part of the Advanex calendar.

Our Star Baker For Comic Relief... On your marks, get set, BAKE!
|
|
Our team showed very clearly that they know their Showstoppers from their Soggy Bottoms!
Teams at both sites recently held a Bake Off challenge in order to raise money for Comic Relief. The events were a real success and helped to raise over £200 for Comic Relief.
Both teams pulled out all the stops against the ladies in the canteens and baked some fabulous cakes. Every team member that brought in some baking and/or bought a cake got one vote for our secret ballot. The votes were then counted and the winners announced. The Master Bakers were Wayne Dennis and Nigel Clements (Southwell) and Karen Szijj and Karen Palmer (Bilborough).
What a tough job sampling all those cakes...

Med Tech
|
|
We recently exhibited at the Med Tec Exhibition in Paris. The show was a great way for us to showcase our skills and expertise relating to medical device development in key areas such as reducing particulate and detangling springs.
The team really enjoyed the exhibition and got to meet plenty of existing and potential customers.
